Hering of Concord New Hampshire lectured last Tuesday at the Realty Opera House on Christian Science The Science of Salvation He defined salvation as deliverance from evil through Mind not matter noting that Mind is divine Principle and that healing comes from spiritual understanding Mrs Eddy’s discovery is celebrated for its demonstrable science of salvation guiding individuals to the kingdom of heaven.

Presbyterian paper gains nine new subscriptions in September

Presbyterian Examiner for Michigan secretary reports 9 new subscriptions secured in September, with cash and pledges totaling 69 dollars to renew or clear arrears. Alma readers will see improved paper and William Ewing, Senior Class of the college, hired as correspondent for Alma covering church and college interests.

Sugar Factory Readies for Campaign As Beets Begin

Sugar factory manager Jotham Allen says the crop overall is good though sugar content is low but improving. First beets pulled locally last Monday with gangs starting to work. total beet tonnage forecast at 75,000 to 80,000 tons. Factory expansion completed. 250 to 275 workers to be employed. campaign expected to last about three months starting when beets reach supply. Coal and gas supply secured to avoid fuel delays.

Harness shop sold in Alma to Claude Hickok

J E Wise sold the Alma harness shop yesterday to Claude Hickok who takes immediate possession. Hickok is well known in Alma and the surrounding area. He has years in the feed barn business with his father and has farmed north of the city this past summer. Wise may pursue new plans and will likely remain in the city. Cushing and Benedict report a contract with silk mills to offer ribbon values and invite readers to view their window display. Miss Mullenbach is teaching high school in Madison Indiana contrary to prior plans to study at the University of Michigan.

Alma Mich meeting of the Common Council adjourned after approving the previous journal. Discussions covered Post vault plans for Parsons, sewer communications, and taxation recommendations by the Ways and Means Committee. Also approved bids, payroll items, and refunds for curb work, with adjournment to follow.

A week from Friday October Lith, Alma College plans inaugurating President elect Thomas C Blaisdell. The Synod marks Abna College twenty fifth opening anniversary with a full day program from early morning to afternoon. Rev James M Barkley D D will give the commemorative address on The Logic and the Men that Made Alma. The inaugural address by Blaisdell will discuss The Renaissance of the Denominational College.

A night school will be held at the high school next Monday evening at seven o'clock. Those interested are cordially invited to attend.

Nelson Returns to City After Summer Travel

Ivan Nelson came back to the city last Thursday after traveling in the southern states and resumed work at the University of Michigan. A small blaze occurred Friday morning when tar in a large kettle on State and Superior streets caught fire. Merkle Cement and Coal Co. workers spent hours smothering it. The city Episcopalians hosted a complimentary dinner for Rev and Mrs Jackson at the parish house Tuesday evening, highlighting the rector and his wife and ending with cordial conversation.

Prof Veatch made his first Alma audience appearance in a faculty recital at the college chapel. Miss Theo Amsbury aided, and Miss Roberts offered Chopin numbers. The program featured a mix of sacred and romantic pieces, including Thus Saith the Lord, The Rosary, and Mother of Mine, concluding with an Irish dialect encore.
