Marcus Bancroft longtime Gratiot County pioneer died at his Ithaca home Friday morning September 21 after about a year of illness. Born September 28, 1834 in Nelson Portage County Ohio he was seventy two. He married Cynthia Hannah March 4 1858 who survives him. He leaves two children Mrs John Jeffrey of Reading California and A Bancroft of Arcada plus a brother George Bancroft of Kidacw and two brothers and a sister.
The Wright House hosted eighty business men at a banquet for Saginaw wholesalers and manufacturers. Arthur Hill spoke and E B Waldron presided as toastmaster, urging mutual trade benefits between Saginaw and Alma. The Saginaw Courier Herald praised the decor and menu and noted thanks to Alma for their hospitality.

Hon E L Hamilton a Civil War veteran and Moses Wisner Post G A R member of Ithaca died recently. He came to Ithaca in 1866 and bought eighty acres in Arcada township. Funeral held Monday at 1 PM at the Presbyterian church with G A R and Relief Corps present. Burial at Pine River Cemetery in Emerson. Recitations and program noted at gathering, with Mrs Stadeberger and Mrs Neidhart hosting.
North Shade Farmers Club plans a Friday program on October 6 at Mr and Mrs Geo Crissidore's home. The event features exhibits, a short post dinner program, recitations, songs, a farmer’s sermon talk, and a public invitation to attend and recall the Mass Meeting.

Montcalm supervisors at a special session voted to submit a $20,000 bond proposition for a county courthouse and jail to qualified voters of Montcalm County. The measure will appear at the general election on Tuesday November 6. The vote was 11 in favor and 18 against. Last spring the board had approved the same proposition by 12 to 1.

John Beechler, an early Gra tiot county settler who arrived in Newark township in 1855, died last week at over 81. He was born in Pennsylvania on March 6 1885 and leaves five children. Funeral service was held Wednesday at his Newark home, with Rev. D H Shelby officiating, and he was buried in Beechler Cemetery.
Wheeler plans a private bank with capital from Ithaca. Breckenridge and Wheeler investors, including Crawford and W. C. Ware, met in Ithaca with Chas. Raker to discuss building a new bank facility. Construction starts soon and banking expected this fall.
