Good Roads Work Praised by State Official in Alma

State Highway Commissioner Earle lauds the work of Highway Commissioner Fred Church in Alma. A mile of road finished by Church was approved by Deputy Rogers, with Arcada township to receive a $500 state reward. Citizens credit local efforts by A W Wright and ongoing graveling along the town line and roads into Alma, with more improvements planned next year.

Reception to Rev Hoag at Woodworth Avenue home

Last Friday evening the Loonville residence on Woodworth avenue opened to First Methodist Church friends for a reception honoring Rev and Mrs Hoag who depart this week for Battle Creek. Rev FH Clapp and wife arrived, set to make Alma their home for the next year, following conference action. About 150 citizens attended as music and refreshments enhanced the occasion.

Alma College Receives 10000 Bequest for Chair of Physical Culture

The will of ex-Governor Aaron T. Bilis, filed in Saginaw last week, leaves between 160000 and 410000 dollars to several public institutions. Alma College receives 10000 to establish a chair of physical culture in the women’s department, with proceeds used for salaries.

Dogs Kill Sheep Near Forest Hill Farm

Saturday night dogs slaughtered six sheep belonging to Mr. Carr a mile east of Forest Hill. Several others were torn and mangled but believed to survive. The owner’s identity was unknown and the dogs may pose danger to the farm going forward.

Fatal Burn Accident Near Bethany Tolling Tragedy

The St Louis Independent reports the fatal burn of Mrs. Cornell of Bethany township after a gasoline stove explosion at their home four and a half miles east of the city. She attempted to extinguish the fire by leaping toward a water tank but perished about noon Tuesday. She leaves a husband and a six year old son, and was a daughter of D C Rounds. Funeral services were to be held in Ovid.

Methodist Pastor Rev F H Clapp Appointed in Alma

Rev F H Clapp receives appointment to the Methodist church in Alma for the coming year. He is an eastern graduate of Drew Theological Seminary, noted for culture and scholarship, and previously served four years at Haven M E Church in Jackson. Mrs Clapp is from the east, daughter of a Congregational minister with a suburban church near Bo. Also announced were conference visitors Rev A L Toner and Rev J W Vickers to Boston University.

Accident at Pere Marquette depot shocks Stanton

The Stanton Clipper reports a tragic accident at the Pere Marquette depot when a boy, Vernor Lowe, aged years, attempted to jump onto a moving car during switching. A wheel severed part of his head and legs, witnesses including several ladies. The body was prepared for burial, funeral held at his parents home, interment at Forest Hill cemetery.

Clover Huller Burned In Apparent Arson Threat

Wm Ceasar left his engine and clover huller on a corner in Middle ton. Neighbors found the huller burning after 11 40 p m. A door was opened to admit draft and the machine set afire. A threat linked to union pressure years ago may explain the act. Loss reported heavy.
