Michigan Sugar pays farmers one million for October beets
Alma plant of Michigan Sugar Company paid Gratiot county farmers about one million dollars for October beets. St Louis Hollan-St Louis Sugar Co. paid $425,000 to growers, most from Gratiot. Payment totaled $506,907.32 for 391,000 tons and 871 pounds of beets delivered in October. Funds were sent by mail to ensure safety and reduce labor. Much of this money will circulate in Alma stores and local businesses.
