Michigan Sugar pays farmers one million for October beets

Alma plant of Michigan Sugar Company paid Gratiot county farmers about one million dollars for October beets. St Louis Hollan-St Louis Sugar Co. paid $425,000 to growers, most from Gratiot. Payment totaled $506,907.32 for 391,000 tons and 871 pounds of beets delivered in October. Funds were sent by mail to ensure safety and reduce labor. Much of this money will circulate in Alma stores and local businesses.

Beautiful musical tea for Alma Library

Mrs Fy Ruggles hosted a large entertainments for Alma Public Library on Michigan avenue. Notables from out of town attended as Miss Marlett Frances Briske sang soprano and was backed by Evangeline Lawkins. Nellie Weatherhead read poetry. Mr Chowinard and Mr Omstead led a varied program. A five piece orchestra provided afterglow dancing. The Arcades farmers club will meet Thanksgiving day at Hainlines with a home gathered dinner and program.

Presbyterian colleges plan vast endowment drive meeting in Chicago

Presidents and financial secretaries from seventeen Presbyterian colleges will meet with Presbyterian educational board officers in Chicago on November 18 to outline a cooperative fund raising plan for the 84 million endowment drive. The effort targets rapid, even distribution of gifts from 25,000 to 200,000 per college and aims to reduce campaign costs by staging sequential fund raising for each college. Westmin ster College in Salt Lake City is allotted the largest share among first year recipients.
