Genesta theatre sale brings McLaughlin to Alma project

Serbians Sent to Alma College for Education
Two Eastern European Serbians, Alexander Milicho vich and Milbourne Lepossovich, have been sent to Alma College to attend classes. They are the first from Serbia to enroll at this Presbyterian college in the city. Dr. Roselie Slaughter Morton organized the arrangement to educate about sixty youths in American institutions. Loponsavich, 22, served in the Serbian army and spent two years as a Austrian prisoner in Hungary before returning to service. Milichevich studied in Serbia and later in a Serbian school in Paris during the war. Neither man speaks English. one knows French and German, the other French. Credits from European institutions are not yet settled, but they are expected to count as sophomores.

Alma Woman Killed in Auto Crash Near Coldwater
Mrs. Mary Catherine Bartlett of Alma was killed and her husband Thomas Bartlett injured when their car went into a ditch near Coldwater and overturned. She was pinned under the vehicle as they were en route to Florida for the winter. The funeral was held at the Methodist Episcopal church in Alma with interment in Riverside cemetery. The family had long resided in Gratiot county. Mary Catherine Currence Bartlett, born 1858 in Sumner township, married to Thomas M. Bartlett in 185..., had lived in Alma most of her life. A Ladies Guild Bazaar and Christmas displays were announced, and St. John’s Episcopal church planned a Sunday confirmation service by Bishop Charles J. Williams.
