Bond Issue Approved by Alma Voters for Water System Expansion

Alma voters approved an $80,000 bond to expand the water system and provide a pure well water supply with an elevated tank and million gallon reservoir, plus new wells. The vote also favored changing the fiscal year from October 1 to July 1, with tallies showing a strong majority though exact counts vary between official figures and The Record. Fire damages opera house in St Louis blaze

Alma Fire Department aided St Louis to stop a Western business district fire started in the new opera house block. The second floor opera house burned while goods from Vliet dry goods and Smalley clothing stores were moved out. First floor damage limited to smoke and water. thousands of dollars in losses loom. Armistice Day Parade and Ball Planned in Alma

Armistice day in Alma is to be celebrated with a morning parade, military barrages, college services, and an evening monster military ball. The event, led by George W. Myers Post No 132 American Legion, includes a 9 30 assembly at city hall, a parade to the college campus, patriotic programs, and a football game at Davis field, culminating in a ball at 8 p.m. Also noted is the local Legion’s arrangements and a banner of plans for ex-service men and all x-service men of the county. A separate obituary reports the death of Mrs Henry Clow, pioneer resident of Gratiot county, with funeral at Sumner and interment in Sumner cemetery. The Modern Woodmen of America camp L begins weekly meetings starting next Friday the 5th.

Alma Foundry and Manufacturing Co to Open Soon

Alma will host a new industry within thirty days in the former X Cel Paint plant. BE M. announces the capitalized $60,000 firm will remodel the southeast Alma facility into a foundry and manufacturing plant with St Louis presses and moving equipment from John Schwartz. Incorporators include Judge H J Pantos of Marion Indiana John Sehwarty and E M Templin of Alma.

State plans action to curb river pollution and save fish

The state health commissioner Dr Olin said action will protect streams from pollution. The Pine river between St Louis and Alma and waters at Owasso show oxygen depletion killing thousands of fish and causing a strong odor. Investigations suggest water weed and sewage from sugar beet factories as causes. A legal move for an injunction may follow once facts are fixed. There will be a Saturday meeting of Y M C A leaders at City Hall and Tiffin Cafe with a luncheon. Greenville Eleven to Meet Green Ville Friday in Key Game

Local resident Leopold Kehn Dies at 79 in Alma

Leopold Kehn aged 79, longtime Alma resident since moving from Fenton nearly 35 years ago, died at his Park avenue home Saturday morning. He once worked as a merchant tailor before retirement. A funeral was held Tuesday at 2 PM from the Interstate Home with Rev. J Frank Jackson officiating. burial followed at Riverside Cemetery.

Gratiot Republicans sweep county ticket in election

In Gratiot county the Republican slate won a clear victory while Democrats captured two offices. Probate Judge Jan G. Kress and Sheriff Alfred Z. Willert head a slate that included Bernie L. Case as County Clerk and Sidney Evey as Treasurer. Circuit Court Commissioners were W. A. Rahike and Ray McCall Coroners Will K. Ludwig and Bert C. Hall. Republican landslide sweeps Michigan and nation
