Pacific Coast Garden Tests Bulbs For Home Production
The Department of Agriculture runs a bulb garden near Bellingham Washington to prove Holland bulbs can be grown in the United States. Ten acres were leased, and in the first years thousands of bulbs were planted. Early results show Bellingham bulbs bloom seven to ten days earlier than Dutch bulbs with better size color and disease resistance. The aim is to reduce imports and keep bulb investment domestic.
