Live Stock Prices for Hogs Stir Southern Farmers
A United States Department of Agriculture briefing shows southern hogs can fetch prices like corn belt hogs when properly fed and handled. Mississippi owners sent nearly 6,000 hogs to National Stock Yards, Iowa and Mississippi feeding pens used mixed grain with corn and tankage. Hogs weighed 250 pounds at arrival, finished on corn, with peanuts and velvet beans noted as suitable supplements. Tennessee hogs, 12 carloads, also sold well despite southern origin, evidencing strong market demand. The largest single shipment payout, 872417, set a record at the market.
