Long obituary traces Rev Fleming born 1843 in Jackson County Michigan. He served in the 12th Michigan Infantry and held many teaching and missionary roles before Presbyterian ministry. Funeral held Wednesday at 10 a.m. from the Presbyterian church with several local clergymen giving eulogies.

Millionaire C W Post Takes Life In Santa Barbara Inquest
C W Post billionaire cereal maker from Battle Creek Michigan shot himself while temporarily insane. Inquest testimony by Dr J C Bainbridge and Miss Ella Benson described Post as ill in health and recently returning from Rochester Minnesota operation. Coroner's jury verdict was non committal noting death from gunshot wound. Body sent to Battle Creek for burial.

Clement E. Barnes of Alova died May 10 1914 in Toledo after a long illness. Son of Frank Barnes born in Coral Montcalm county Michigan in 1878 he lived in Alova as a boy and later ran a laundry business in Ottawa Ohio. Funeral at Alma home and Presbyterian church burial in Riverdale cemetery. He leaves a wife and child and several siblings Roy and Paul Barnes attended from Toledo with C H Trout and wife Edmore present.

Alma Fire Chief reports city equipment in excellent condition
Chief Sarter of the Alma Fire Department told the City Council on Tuesday evening that the city owns 3250 feet of fire hose, 3000 feet of which are in excellent shape. For the year ending May 1, 1914, the department answered 25 calls, 22 of which required department service, and the entire fire fighting apparatus was reported to be in excellent condition.

Alma Bird Club organizes and adopts constitution
The Alma Bird Club completed its permanent organization after Mr. Ernest Har lad Baynes visit. Francis King was elected president with J. T. Ewing, Olive Smith, W. A. Bahlke and S. L. Bennett as vice presidents. The constitution names the group the Alma Bird Club to promote bird life, protection of local life and a sanctuary. Dues range from ten cents for juniors to twenty-five dollars for life members.

The Alma Standard Foundry and Manufacturing Co has completed a new 34 by 36 foot one story addition south of Mechanic Street to serve as a moulding room. Secretary treasurer C R Messinger reports several large contracts requiring more men and remand. At the west end an addition houses machinery for dying all kinds of machine work. J P French, an expert machinist, will specialize in machine repair and patterns with G H Anderson and F E Waite assisting.

HIAWATHA ROSE MAIDEN The Ann May Festival launched with Hiawatha's Wedding Feast and an Alma College Orchestra concert. Cadillac dispatch reports the wet and dry fight in Wexford County will go to the state supreme court after Judge Fred Lamb denied a writ to force a recount of 198 ballots rejected in the recent tally. Attorneys for saloon interests argued four hours before the ruling.

Grat County Athletic Association officials including Alexander Dunenson and C d Dawson set prize standards for the county meet at Davie Field on June 12. Pomona Grange held its quarterly meeting with North Wheeler Grange on Saturday May 6 attracting many grangers and visitors. The group traveled by noon train from the west, skipping a morning session. A full program featured lectures papers music and recitations, with endorsements discussed for Luther Carter to the Michigan State Grange executive committee and plans for a joint picnic with Montcalm County. The fifth degree session met at the schoolhouse and North Wheeler hosted an evening gram before members faced train schedules.
