May Festival at Alma College May 12 13 with Rose Maiden

The May Festival at Alma College will run Tuesday and Wednesday May 12 and 13, featuring The Rose Maiden with Charles R. Hargreaves as tenor and Harriet McGreaham in contralto. Grace D. Roberts will give an organ recital and Reese F. Veatch conducts The Rose Maiden and Hiawatha's Wedding Feast with T. A. Fannell as tenor. The Choral Society and Orchestra prepare for strong performances to boost Alma and its musical map.

Alma W C T U to meet for annual district and county president attend

The Alma W. C. T. U. will meet with Mrs. S. Vliet on Wright Avenue Saturday at 2 30 for the annual meeting. The district and county presidents will attend and full member turnout is expected.

Odd Fellows bid farewell to longtime member E G Alverson

The Odd Fellows and Rebekahs hosted a banquet at the Odd Fellow Temple for E G Alverson before his move to Frisco Utah to live with his son Earl. About 75 attendees heard tributes to his 44 years as an Odd Fellow and his role as a charter member of lodge No 238. He was born in Royalton Ohio eighty years ago and spent most of his life in Michigan and Alma.

Alma Grain and Lumber appoints E C Patten manager

Alma Grain and Lumber Company announces the engagement of Mr. E. C. Patten as manager of the Alma Roller Mills. He will begin duties immediately and is known in the area from Judson Bros. of Durand, Michigan. The firm also expresses appreciation for Mr. G. S. Mrs. Francis King delivered an informative horticultural lecture Monday evening at the High School Auditorium. About eighty colored attendees viewed the curtain display arranged by Robert Notestein, following remarks by Miss Messinger.

Alma vs Lansing Track Meet Highlights Team Depth

Alma High School competed against Lansing in a dual track meet on May 2. Hantey Smith and Gargett led Alma with strong sprinting and field events while Lansing’s Harvey Healy Miller impressed in several finals. The meet showed Alma’s depth, with top performances in the 100 yard dash shot put discus and broad jump, and a standout pole vault.

Track meet results with Lansing victory over Alma

Lansing topped Alma 76 to 40 in a track meet. A tied first place went to Smith A and Mile Ran-RBoyce L led in the distance events. Hoff mat L posted a 5 min 16 sec split, with a Half Mile Relay time of 1 min 38 3.

Alma Debaters Suffer Loss in Dual with St Johns

Alma High School endured defeat in both halves of the Friday dual debate with St Johns. In the negative at St Johns Alma fell two and one, while the affirmative at home also lost two and one despite arguments on the Hay-Pauncefoter Treaty and economic cost of coastwise trade through the Panama Canal.

Reverend Brooke Leads New Howell Presbyterian Church

Rev L S Brooke formerly of Gratiot County and Alma College Class of 1896 supervises construction of a new $50,000 Presbyterian church in Howell. Ground breaking occurred last week. The Gothic styled building will stand opposite the Public Library with multiple entrances and a large basement housing a gym, dining hall, parlor, kitchen, and rooms for girls.
