Democrats battle over Wilson slate at Ithaca convention

In Ithaca last Wednesday a Democratic mass meeting chose sixteen delegates for the Bay City convention on May 15 amid factional fights over whether to instruct for Woodrow Wilson. The Wilson side won and selected their preferred slate after heated debate over credentials and organization. Local leaders including John T. Mathews and DeWitt Vought clashed as Archie McCall and George Stone led the opposing charge. Woodbridge Ferris closed with a warning on political change and praised Wilson.

Wild Flower Show At City Hall By Civic League

The Garden Committee invites children aged eight to sixteen to enter a Wild Flower Show at the city hall on Saturday May eleventh at 3 30 p m Exhibits must be gathered within two miles of Wright House corner Alma and brought between 1 and 2 p m The prizes include 3 00 for the best collection a wild flower book and a jar or vase All entries must be in a glass or jar with a card naming exhibitor and each flower variety For more details call Mrs Charles Rhodes State street Richardson is chairwoman of the Garden Committee.

Ammi W Wright Dies After Stroke at Alma Home

Ammi Willard Wright 89 of Alma Michigan died Sunday afternoon at his State street home after a period of illness including a stroke on April 25. Born in 1822 in Grafton Vermont he built wealth in Saginaw Detroit and Alma through lumber milling and multiple enterprises. He helped establish the Alma Opera House Wright House Alma Springs Sanitarium and several local companies shaping northern Michigan. He married Miss Anona Case in 1885 and is mourned as a man of sterling integrity by the citizens of Alma.

Notable Alma magnate Wright dies after long public life

Funeral services were held for prominent Alma resident and benefactor Wright who shaped education and business in Michigan. He amassed wealth across railroads banks real estate and mines and donated to Alma College Wright Hall and other community projects. The city paused business to honor a man admired for generosity and civic leadership.

1912 Lecture Course Offers Strong Program And Noted Speakers

The next season will feature a three musical numbers, two lectures, and a play with Ben Greet Players and two American platform leaders Dr. S Park Cadman and Thomas Brook Fletcher. The Bergen-Marx Trio, Evelyn Berwelt, a New York quartet of women, and other acts join the lineup. Details are limited for space. full specifics to follow in the Record. Mrs. J. E. Henderson hosted Isabel Henderson at Wright Hall. Mr. Timby gave notable solos from The Messiah. Floral tributes from across Michigan and neighboring states accompanied the service. The Wright funeral in Chester, Vermont, prompted city banks to close at noon in respect. Out-of-town attendees included Wellington R. Burt and others from Saginaw, Battle Creek, Detroit, and Battle Creek.
