Arcada township voters to decide on town hall plan

A petition signed by 37 electors prompts Arcada township to place a $1200 town hall purchase and construction proposal on the spring ballot. If approved, land purchase at $100 and building cost at $1200 would fund a township hall for public use, election booths, and safekeeping of town property, with work starting in early spring.

Union Telephone Company Elects New Board of Directors

The Union Telephone Company held its annual meeting at the Wright House with harmony. Sec J L Coon reported a strong year. New directors include C T Babcock, E S Wagar, J H Milden, F Q Thiers and others. Babcock re elected president Wagar vice president Aldrich treasurer Conn secretary Melchers GM. The company remains Michigan's strongest independent carrier with growing patronage and improved service.

Masonic Field Day Draws Hundreds Across Lodges

Mason Fraternity event brings nearly three hundred members from St. Louis Alma Ashley Breckenridge Midlothian Gratiot and North Star lodges to Ithaca for the annual Field Day. Alma chartered a special train carrying over a hundred and fifty members from town to the gathering.

Gleaner Farmers Elevator plans meeting on March 30

Attention subscribers in Ithaca Michigan. A recent meeting adjourned to Saturday March 30 with a committee to draft organization by laws. Masons Prepare Welcome For Grand Lodge Visit

The Masonic Home hosts a March 29 program with Grand Lodge officers arriving by train. Alma City Band escorts them to the home on North State Street for 2 pm exercises led by Frank T. Lodge of Detroit. Dinner and supper for 1000 visitors arranged, access limited to members of the order.

Royally Gingri Hosts Simon Messinger Friends at State Street

Forty or more of Simon Messinger s gentle men friends gathered at his home on State Street last Monday evening for social conversation and cards. Ten tables were in use as refreshments were served by James Kline Done Evans and Frank Polasky. Afterward, more card games continued until near midnight with all guests enjoying the hospitality of host Messinger.

Change of Time On The Ann Arbor Railroad

The Ann Arbor railroad will change time Sunday March 1 when motor car service between Owosso and Cadillac will be resumed. The morning northbound car and the afternoon southbound car will run about an hour earlier than when service was discontinued. Trains Nos 57 and an oil run between Frankfort and Mt Pleasant instead of between Frankfort and Owosso.

Mudge to Take Charge of Ashley World In June

The St. Louis Independent reports E. H. Mudge, longtime editor and publisher, has sold the Ashley World and will assume leadership of the Independent at the start of June. Mudge aims to uphold the paper’s strong Gratiot county reputation as a top news source. Dr. B Wilcox and family plan June departure for Decatur Indiana where he will be secretary of the Holland St Louis Sugar Company plant. D A Botsford of Vestaberg visited last Saturday.

Alma Garage Co. formed by Allen and Mead in Alma

The Alma Garage Co. formed by Orville A. Allen and Frank Mead began Feb 11, with Allen to manage and Mead continuing at Central Michigan Produce Co. The shop offers overhauling and repair by experienced staff Bart Youngs and Mervin Stuyter. Firestone tires and Natural White Rome oil are featured. Auto livery continues. Rates: 50 cents per hour until April 5, then 60 cents. Bicycle repair added under O W Slayton.

Alfalfa Club Organized at City Hall

A score of farmers gathered at City Hall to form the Alfalfa Club. C F Brown was elected president and Henry Soule secretary and treasurer. Membership is fifty cents, with each member pledging to sow at least one acre of alfalfa. Experimental station staff from M A C will assist growers, and soil samples will be analyzed at the agricultural college.

Easter Sunday Excursion to Toledo from Alma

On Sunday April 7 the Ann Arbor Railroad offers a special excursion to Toledo leaving Alma at 42 A.M. Round trip fare is 1.50 dollars. The return train departs Toledo at 6:00 P.M. giving excursionists six and a half hours in the city.

Demonstration in Spraying and Pruning at Kennedy Farm

Mr. O K White state Field Agent of the Department of Horticulture will give a public demonstration in spraying and pruning at the Kennedy fruit farm on Friday April 5th. The event aims to help orchardists in Gratiot county and others learn to produce fruit demanded by trade. All farmers and fruit growers are invited to attend at the Kennedy fruit farm one fourth mile west of St Louis.

Free Bible Lecture at Alma on The Great Hereafter

Prof Johnson of New York City under the International Bible Students Association will lecture at the I O O F Temple 213 State Street Alma next Sunday at 3 pm. The talk explores future fate of the dead and how one name offers salvation. Seats are free, no collection ever taken, and the venue is expected to fill.

Alma Teachers Banquet Honors Board of Education

Teachers and spouses, superintendent, and Mrs F E Ellsworth attended a banquet in Alma highlighting harmony between the Board of Education and teachers. Principal Harold B Ward acted as toastmaster as Ezra Smith and Supt Ellsworth gave remarks praising the school system built with mutual respect and appreciation.

County Convention Adopts Tariff Stance and Declares State Delegates

The Republican County Convention met in Ithaca and elected delegates to the State and 11th District conventions to Bay City and Reedy. Resolutions urged mutual support for Francis King’s State Senate bid, opposed tariff reductions on sugar, and warned against tariff tinkering that harms domestic agriculture.

Mrs John W Myers Dead in Ithaca

Mrs. John W Myers of Ithaca died last Friday morning from uremic poisoning. Her maiden name was Josephine Cooper she married John W Myers on June 29 1911 less than a year ago. She was sister to Mrs J Q Durfey of Ithaca. Mr Myers has the sympathy of many Alma friends in his bereavement. A E Miller of Elwell visited friends last week.
