Sugar Factory to Expand Output by Half at Alma Plant

General Manager Jotham Allen announces Alma sugar factory will enlarge to raise daily capacity from 800 to 1,260 tons within months. Enlargement cost exceeds 250000 dollars, no new building, extra boiler room and new equipment planned. Enhanced output aims to shorten campaigns, cut costs, and boost annual tonnage beyond prior years.

W Johnson left Thursday for a month long central Michigan trip to Grand Ledge Belding and Greenville. Captain H D Ferris and wife of Harbor Beach visited Prof F E Ellsworth and family. Ferris is superintendent of the ate saving station at Harbor.

Wright gifts Alma Springs to Michigan Masons for home

In a special edition dated Sunday October 30, the citizens of Alma learned that A W Wright donated Alma Springs Sanitarium to the Michigan Masonic Grand Lodge for use as a home for aged and feeble masons. The dedication by Grand Lodge officers drew over 1200 masons from across the state. Wright, born July 5, 1822, remains in his 90s and watched the event from his home. A bronze memorial tablet and a painting of Wright will adorn the Home’s lobby as a lasting tribute.

Display Of Horses At Gratiot County Show Enthralls Big Crowd

The third annual horse show was held Saturday at John £ 6. Schick's feed barn on Superior street under Henry McNamara and G. B. Hircok. The event drew about two thousand spectators despite rough roads and heavy carloads of horses shipped in from Gratiot county. Entries included Fitzgerald Bros. with seven draft horses and Fred VanBuskirt with six draft horses averaging 2,500 pounds per team. The parade route went from the barn to Superior and State streets to Orchard avenue and back via Gratiot avenue. Officials praised the show as extraordinary for the region and noted the large draft horse entries and the overall value of animals shown.

Gov Chase 8 Osborn reports a long beet run last year due to poor beet quality at Alma factory.
