Henry William King of Alma Michigan was elected chairman of the 1915 1916 Williams Literary Monthly at a board of editors meeting in Jessup Hall. He studied at the Westminster School of Simsbury Conn where he managed the baseball team and served on the Westminster Review editorial staff. King contributed verse and prose to the Monthly and is noted for polished graceful verse with classical influence.

Ferris Man Near Death From Quarrel and Shooting
William Donovan was shot by his sixteen year old stepson Tom Hazen during a dispute in Ferris township on Sunday March 21. The youth refused to carry in wood, the elder man tried to seize the gun, and the boy fired injuring Donovan who is expected to survive. The boy was taken to Stanton under sheriff guard while doctors treat the wounded man.

Escaped Thief May Be in Alma
Homer Henry 34 left Breckenridge with 38 dollars to buy cement and shingles for Myron Scudder five miles south of Breckenridge. He did not return and Scudder searched unsuccessfully. Henry bought shoes in Breckenridge and mentioned traveling to Alma or Saginaw. A warrant is out for him.

Hastings to Erect New High School Under Ellsworth
Hastings voters approved 383,000 for a new high school directed by F. E. Ellsworth, former Alma superintendent. The facility will closely resemble Alma High with a 434 seat assembly room and skylights, and will later split grades 7–9 in the old building and 10–12 in the new.

Rebuilt Merchants' Block Progress Nears Completion
Work on the Merchants' Realty Block by Contractor Fullerton and crew advances in Alma with a six thousand dollar expenditure. The lower floor will house Vern Wright's furniture stock and showroom while the second story becomes business offices. An eight-inch precision challenge in wall support was met as eighteen-inch I beams and three trusses settle the front wall. The project features copper upper panels, three-way doorways, a three-foot longer plate glass, red oak upper finish, and expansive brick construction from basement to second floor.

Evangelist Elmer P. Loose winds up a four week revival as Alma’s united churches report nightly crowds and many convert. The campaign drew $1026 to cover expenses, far exceeding the $550 goal, with about 700 attending and many pledging renewed faith. Alma College students, business people, and youths joined in widespread religious impact. The farewell service Sunday will include a freewill offering as gratitude for the evangelist’s work. He departs Monday with thanks from thousands.

Big Contribution At Sunday Revival Service
In a Sunday tabernacle revival service two hundred forty seven people and groups gave 1126 dollars for the tabernacle building and maintenance. Five men offered twenty five dollars each while thirty four donors gave ten dollars each and various smaller gifts filled the total. The collection supported church programs across several Sunday School classes lodges mission groups and ladies aid societies. The committee had expected five hundred fifty dollars but contributions nearly doubled that amount.

Mrs C E Lindsay, national superintendent of Fairs and Open Air Meetings, reports a telegram from Barney Link, president of Van Beuren and New York Billposting Co., about a Palm Beach Florida meeting of the Poster Advertising Association. The group passed a resolution barring new liquor contracts and ending existing ones by December 31, 1915. The association has funded religious and educational posters and aided WCTU efforts in New York and other states. Mrs Lindsay urges Link to push action against liquor advertising.
