Bishop Gillespie, Western Michigan Bishop, Dies at Grand Rapids
Bishop George DeNormandie Gillespie longtime head of the Protestant Episcopal diocese of western Michigan died in Grand Rapids after a long illness. Born June 14, 1819 in Goshen New York he served churches in New York Ohio Michigan and held roles in Michigan church governance and state corrections and charities. He was instrumental in establishing the western diocese and was consecrated February 24 1875.

Children’s Party Honors Mrs Nora Farrell at Rhodes Home
Last Thursday Mr and Mrs C G Rhodes hosted a Children’s Party for Mrs Rhodes sister Miss Nora Farrell of Ele Rapids. Guests wore childlike outfits with dolls present. Games such as tiddlywinks and charades filled the evening until Father Rhodes announced refreshments. The junior guest famed for his dress was called the baby and impressed with maple syrup.
