Merrill Stuckey Named Assistant Postmaster at Alma

Merrill Stuckey, longtime Alma post office employee, was chosen as assistant postmaster to succeed the late Howard C. Lake. Carl V. Shook moves to money order window while Fred Howe shifts to city route one. the Royal Route carrier is now covered by a substitute. Postmaster W. P. Cash expects improved efficiency and smoother operations from the changes.

Father and Son Banquet a Big Local Success at Masonic Temple

The annual Father and Son banquet at the Masonic Temple drew strong attendance and sound finances. Toasts by S R Swin of Republic Motor Truck and Alma area leaders highlighted the evening with humor and lessons for boys. A college choir provided music and readings complemented the program, with a notable auto ride home courtesy of The Republic Motor Truck Company.

First Ga te Church Month Effort Draws Congregations

Sunday weight weather aided a church outreach in Ga te Church month as workers from several churches canvassed the city. A church member noted the morning crowd remained full, while others said their congregations were largely their own members. Under the leadership of Wilbur Price the effort completed in a medant hour's time with each pastor advertising within his parish.

Idle Hour Theatre to open Strand location with new fixtures

A Miller, manager of Idle Hour Theatre, bought equipment in Detroit for a Strand Theatre based store. The new complex in Alma will house a confectionery, ice cream parlor, and cigar shop open by May 1 or earlier. A $3,000 fountain signals top line quality for the venture under theatre management.

Alma to Start Sewer Project After Long Delay

After nearly three years of delays due to war and health requirements Alma's city commission let a contract to William Bartling for about 575 feet of sewer work as part of an 11 000 foot spring and summer project. The plan includes ten streets with totals on Ferris Hannah Francisco and Grace avenues in the east and Boyer Cedar Oak Vanc ar Yale and Harvard streets in the west. The city may buy a sewer digger and backfiller to offset costs, with Bartling completing his portion at 1.35 dollars per foot.

Booth Lecture by Maud Booth at Methodist Church

Maud Ballington Booth, famed prison reformer and wartime volunteer, will lecture Monday evening March 16 at 8 15 in the local Methodist church. Proceeds go to her prison aid work. Booth earned the nickname Little Mother of the A E F for her service with soldiers in France. Single tickets are 60 cents.

Ages of Saginaw team to train in Alma this spring

The Ages of Saginaw, SA gan-Ontario LA rue champions, will train in Alma this spring with manager Red McKee leading nearly thirty players. They aim to begin mid April workouts ahead of the May season, focusing on testing prospects for the Litzt league title. City considers revoking Alma gas franchise

The Alma city commission reopened ordinance No 111 to revoke the Gratiot County Gas franchise amid a Supreme Court ruling affirming city power. Commissioners Chick Glass and Archer supported filing the ordinance on first reading, with Creaser likely to oppose. If passed, the city and gas company officials will petition the public utilities commission to set a fair Alma gas rate.

Detroit dance instructor opens new school in LO D hall

Professor H H Mittenthal of Detroit will launch a dancing school in the LO D hall on Saturday March 13 with sessions from 7 to 9 pm for instruction and 9 pm to midnight for members dancing under his direction. No public gathering. Mittenthal has over ten years of teaching experience and currently works in Ann Arbor Lansing Holly and Hillsdale. Only one school per town.
