West and Johnson Beaten In City Primary Contest Shifts

In a low turnout non partisan city primary under the commission system Joseph L. Biggerstaff led justice nominations with 11 votes, defeating D L Johnson and George H Carl while Francis E West exited early in the commissioner race. Frank Parker and Arthur E Davies topped the commissioner field as Philip W Creaser and Albert J Archer trailed. Mayor nominees Karl R Adams and Murp hy Murphy won with Adams carrying four precincts and Murphy two.

Michigan World War veterans amend to borrow thirty million

An amendment will be submitted at the spring election to authorize Michigan to borrow thirty million dollars to compensate all residents who served in the late World War. Alma College Announces 1921 Baseball Schedule

Alma College and M I A A officials revealed the 1921 baseball schedule arranged for eleven games with five Michigan Intercollegiate contests. The standout clash is with the Michigan Aggies on Memorial Day May 30 at Alma field, with several games at home and others staggered through April to June across East Lansing Albion Kalamazoo and Adrian venues.

Alma Wins The County Title In 27 To 3 Victory

Alma's basketball team dominated Ithaca high last night at the local gym, winning the county title 27 to 3. Guards and forwards sparked a strong Alma defense, stifling Ithaca nearly all game. Garner Elias and Anderson led scoring with six and four field baskets respectively. Substitution kept Alma steady as lineups circulated and a first half 10 to 1 score reflected Alma's control.

Third Prize Hoover Window Receives Award at Robinson Store

The D W Robinson store in this city won third prize in Hoover Day window trimming contest by Hoover Suction Sweeper Company. Decorator Edward Campbell led the prize window, as major entrants included Wantmakers New York Philadel phia Altman New York The Fair Chicago Hudsons Detroit and The May Cleveland. About five to six thousand stores entered nationwide with five judges from New York evaluating displays.

Allen to Act as Chairman for Alma College Drive

Preparations for the Alma College endowment campaign in Gratiot county advance rapidly. Jotham Allen, manager of the Alma plant of Michigan Sugar Company, will chair the Gratiot county drive with a three-commanders structure. Ballot targets a county quota of 110000. Regional leaders for the state campaign include Dr TH Masnelink of Grand Rapids and M W Tanner of Saginaw.

Alma College Kings Defense in Narrow Loss to Ypsilanti Normal

Alma College and its basketball team faced mixed results in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play. A 18 to 12 loss to Ypsilanti Normal followed a 20 to 14 Hillsdale defeat, with Beattie and Kirker leading the Alma attack and Beattie contributing key foul shots. The season ends with Alma favored for the title as Kalamazoo and Ypsilanti rally late. Coach Rynearson used fresh players late, and the team earns credit for its season, though the title may be shared if no playoff occurs. Mr. and Mrs. McCloskey returned from California after months away for health reasons.

The Climax at Strand Theater March 21 Alma
