Ike Field has accepted Alma College’s spring baseball coaching post and will report April 1. He plans to coach only at Alma this year before moving to Allegheny College next year to lead its athletic programs. Olmstead Joins Republics As Manager and Pitcher

Olmstead, ex White Sox and former American Association player, arrived in the city early in the week and agreed to join the Republic Athletic club to pitch for Almathin summer. He comes with extensive baseball experience and will join DeVogt, former Cleveland player, in managing the Republics. The Trackmakers seem set to field one of the fastest outfits in the state this year.

Farmers Form Co operative Elevator Plan in Arcala Township

About twenty five Arcala Township farmers attended an Areolia Grange meeting to hear State Deputy Michael outline plans for cooperative livestock shipping by land or rail. A 10 cent per hundred pounds charge for members and 10 cents for non members was proposed. Fourteen farmers joined the new organization and two directors from Avenida, Clarence Clark and Byrd Clark, were chosen. They will work with Ithaos elevator while preparations continue and shipments to Alma remain possible. Clean food, properly cooked at a reasonable price is noted as popular.

John Glass Dies Friday in Alma After 33 Years

John Glass, longtime Alma resident, died Friday after living in the town for thirty three years. He was highly respected in the community and remembered for his service and character.

Veteran Alma hardware dealer Glass dies at 63

Prominent Alma resident and former village treasurer Edward Glass died at his Woodworth and West Center home Friday after a long illness. Born 1854, he came to Alma 33 years ago and built a career in hardware, later in Sanderholt Glass stores. A staunch Republican, he served as Alma treasurer for two terms and belonged to the fire department for eight years. He is survived by wife, son Floyd H. Glass, and sister Sue Glass of Ypsilanti. Funeral Sunday at Woodworth Avenue residence, Rev. W. L. Gelston officiating. Burial in Riverside cemetery vault. Out-of-town attendees included Sue Glass, Charles Hogeland, and Grave Case of Battle Creek.

Fifty Years of Marriage for Fon Couple at Alma Farm

Mr. and Mrs. Robert P. Fon celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary at their Alma area farm on February 25. Relatives and friends attended a noon three course dinner with decorations. Montigel Starts New Structure On East Superior Street

Montigel veteran implement dealer begins construction of a new concrete block and brick front building at East Superior Street opposite Alma Gran Lumber. The 50 by 100 foot one and a half story structure will house the implement business with a basement heating plant and storage space for wagons and heavy farm machinery. The Gratiot county Maccabee session met Friday at the LO O F temple in Alma despite poor weather. Ralph Miller, recently returned from service, is reorganizing the Alma Business Men's Association. Miss Hazel B Crosby of Merrill has accepted a position as assistant in Alma college music department. A 2014 Alma College graduate, she studied at the University of Michigan School of Music for two years and will begin her duties this coming Monday as the department continues to grow beyond expectations.
