Alma Board of Trade elects officers and directors

Alma Board of Trade re elected H Washburn as treasurer and D J Johnson as secretary at the annual meeting held Tuesday at Gratiot County club. Directors named include C F Brown Jotham Allen and others. John Chick is the only new member. The meeting heard talks on income tax packing and marking shipments and good roads amendment.

County meeting favors county-system adoption urged by Bryant

At a local gathering Mr. Bryant advocated the county system as the best for the area. Henry H. Soule spoke briefly on Alma Grain & Lumber and the potential benefits of reorganizing the concern for Alma. St Johns vestry plans a social event on Tuesday March 4 from 8 to 9 dancing, then a musical program with refreshments. all invited, no charges.

X Gel All Company Holds Annual Stockholders Meeting

The X Cel All company convened its annual stockholders meeting at the company office in the city, with many local and out of town stockholders in attendance. President Bamborough praised last year’s growth, announced leadership changes, and outlined plans for a larger Michigan distribution network and new product lines.

Duffey Chosen County Chairman for Fifth Liberty Loan

Rev Matthew Duffey of the First Methodist Church is elected county chairman for Gratiot County’s Fifth Liberty Loan campaign. He may appoint his own advisory board and committees, with support from bankers and Liberty Loan workers. Frank Fenton predicts a $6 billion goal at five percent, starting April 2, and notes prior loan sales totals by town and subscriber counts.

William Constable Dies After Apoplexy At Alma

William Constable aged 12 years and long respected citizen died Tuesday evening after an apoplexy attack. He had been living two miles from Alma and visited friends before dining out. He was taken to Carney hospital and passed away the next day. Funeral held at St John’s Episcopal Church conducted by Rev J Frank Jackson with burial at Riverside cemetery.

Grator County Clubhouse Opens to Public Eye

The Grator County clubhouse near South Woodworth and East Water opened Saturday to showcase a new home-like facility. It features a saloon with a grand piano, library, Victrola, reading rooms, dining, kitchen, and second floor billiard areas. Delegates Mrs. William A. Bablke and Mrs. Vincent P.
