Joseph Eugene Kelley born February 24 1858 died June 20 1912 aged 54 years 3 months 26 days. He married Dora N Wise and they had ten children five sons and five daughters. He moved to Gratiot county Summer township twenty two years ago. He leaves a wife five daughters two brothers and one sister. He will be missed by friends and mourned by his family.

Important decision in Udell vs Mutual Lightning Insurance
Justice Swigart ruled Thursday for the plaintiff in the case of Arthur Udell against The Mutual Lightning Tornado Cyclones and Windstorm Protective Insurance Company. The court awarded $125, arguing the barn’s injuries from a hail storm last year were covered. Defense contends damage was hail related and not insured. No prior law or Supreme Court ruling exists on this point. The defendant will appeal to higher courts. Dr Thomas Blaisdell, Michigan Agricultural College English professor, informed Jo M Barkley of Detroit that he would accept Alma College presidency. Barkley chairs the board, Dr Atmust resigned as Alma president after nearly 25 years. A year’s half pay leave was granted. The Record will publish a biography next week.
