The 1920 Redpath Chautauqua opens August 3 with seven days of lectures and performances. Notables include Gilbert and Sullivan’s Pinafore, Louise Stallings voice recital, Sibyl Sammis Singers, Dr Henry E Rompel on Facing the Task, and Dr Carolyn Geisel speaking How to be Young at 70. A sev enth afternoon program features Fairy Thrift and Grobecker's Swiss Singers and Yodlers in native costumes, singing Swiss mountain songs. Ralph Parlette will discuss Human Efficiency as the night topic, promoting his popular booklets It’s Up To You Go South and Salvation of the Sucker. Over a thousand major corporations have bought these leaflets for workers. Parlette has lectured in about five thousand cities in twenty five years and leads Lyceum Magazine. The Parlette lecture closes the program. Monday Alma Community Council meeting urged by County Chairman Crawford at 2 30 in the Wright Estate offices with Miss Williams of Ohio presenting work phases.

Telephone company starts rebuilding Alma system
The Union Telephone Company begins outside plant rebuild in Alma with fifteen workers aiming to finish by November 3. Wires will be cut over when complete, with 30 to 60 days more for full completion. New smaller phones and a common battery system will replace the old setup along with two $28,000 switchboards at Clapp's hardware. Total cost around $100,000, possibly higher. $95,000 was previously appropriated. The upgrade is designed to meet rapid growth and reduce overloading.
