Alma Fourth fireworks and civic parade planned
The county celebrates the glorious old Fourth in Alma with one hundred gans and a grand civic and military parade. Fire teams from Ithaca and St. Louis will demonstrate racing skills, a colored quartet will entertain, and a full day of events follows including water sports, races, games, and a large fireworks display on a river platform. Marshal Brook leads the day with a long committee list and plans to host a crowd with ample food and fireworks.

Alma schools conclude a week of exercises
Busy week for Alma High School students ends with commencement rehearsals. Rev. C E Hoag delivered the baccalaureate at the M E church last Sunday. Class Day was held at the high school, followed by a Juniors reception at City Hall. Grade promotions in the opera house and the annual alumni reception at D L Johnson's residence.

Baccalaureate Sermon Opens High School Commencement
The baccalaureate service at the ME church drew a full house as Rev. C E Hoag urged graduates to go forward and improve beyond their forebears. The day featured orations by Bert Hayeson, Ralph Watson, Spurgeon Anderson and Roy McGrath, a class history by Iva Holiday, and a class poem and song finishing the program.

One of Alma schools most successful clean day exercises was held in the high school room Monday evening. The event featured a decorated setting with ferns and potted plants, a cheering crowd, and a program led by Miss Linnie Adelle on violin and Miss Marnie Mayer as pianist. Effie Boyer delivered a concise salutatory.

The junior-senior reception Wednesday evening offered a pretty affair with banqueting toasts and music. Both classes attended with friends, sharing a memorable night at the opening event, as juniors and seniors alike enjoyed the occasion.
Union Telephone Company doubles capital stock to 500000
The Union Telephone Company board unanimously authorized increasing capital stock from 400000 to 500000 with 99 percent of voting stockholders in favor. The additional 100000 will expand exchanges and toll lines, adding hundreds of phones in Alma Mt Pleasant Shepherd and Mt. Weasant area. Growth includes more than ninety six phones in service at Mt. Weasant by June 1 and a phone for nearly every resident. Toll business also climbs annually.
