Republican slate presents candidacies for governor lieutenant governor secretary of state state treasurer auditor general state land commissioner superintendent of public instruction and a member of the state board of education led by Fred M Warner and George A Pruscott with W H Rose Patrick H Kelley Luther L Wright among others.
The Stars and Stripes will wave Monday as Alma plans a patriotic Fourth of July. Citizens are urged to join in a morning program featuring Rev. EB Hoag and other speakers. The note calls for united, enthusiastic expressions of love for country and honor to heroes.
The article describes a nationalist Fourth of July program in Alma with aims to teach youth patriotism and duties of citizenship. A 7:39pm fire department exhibition by Alma and Ithaca is highlighted, featuring running, hose handling, and ladder raising. In Detroit the Republican state convention saw Fred M Warner secure the nomination on the first ballot with about 770 pledged delegates. The campaign featured reforms and a platform before nominations as delegates gathered at Gratiot county headquarters at the Wayne hotel.
The Arcada township Republican caucus met in Alma's public building on Friday June 25 and elected ten delegates to the county convention in Ithaca on Tuesday June 2. Geo Sharrar served as temporary chairman and T A Ely was chosen permanent chairman. Caris Brown acted as secretary with Gen Sharrar and B A Bivins as tellers. Delegates named include J W Holmes Dr E A Bagley S W Tinker Ely Brew baker Geo W Moore D S Sharrar.
The Gratiot County Republican Convention held in Ithaca elects fifteen delegates for the state convention in Detroit. A. B. Darragh chairs, with G. Aldrich temporary chair, P. N. Bland secretary, and a ballot vote selects delegates including Darragh, Kelly Searles, C. F. Brown, Ben Wineland, W. A. Leet, J. Sat Ithaca, and others. The result is reported as a full slate ready to travel to Detroit.
