Port Huron reports Raggabee Chie defeated Muskegon rival John B. McKwain by a wide margin 211 to 154 in a high scoring game. McKwain led Muskegon with strong shooting but could not overcome local scoring surge.
The 21st biennial review of the Modern Maccabees concluded in Toledo with George Lovelace of Muskegon elected great commander over John B Mellwain of Port Huron. The convention named a full slate of officers and debated salaries and benefits, approving reduced pay for Lovelace and discussing a sick fund and other resolutions. The public installation followed at the Valentine Theatre with remarks on unity after a hard-fought campaign.
A joint Fraternal Memorial Day was held by Odd Fellows Knights of Pythias Woodmen Maccabees Pine River Canton Rathbone Sisters L O T M Royal Neighbors and Rebekah Lodges. They met at 1 pm, marched to Riverside cemetery for services, heard music and an address, then visited graves, offered prayers, and shared refreshments at the 10 C F ball. The event marked the first combined memorial day with plans for annual observances.
The Alma Springs Hotel welcomed Howard PF Cummings of Milwaukee Jonpete Duner of Chicago and W G Mc Edwards Bay City passenger agent as new arrivals. Guests this week included Fred P Fox of New York City Davin Morley Knowlton of Saginaw Katherine Bater of Grayling and Alma College class members at a six o clock tea hosted by Henry Soule. Manager Barnes noted rising summer inquiries and called July and August resort months.
Mis Bordella Belle Conant of Manistee will wed Rev A Irving of this city Monday evening at the bride's home. The ceremony will be by Rev BE D Ruudall. Conant, a music and kindergarten graduate, taught at Manistee and Alma College. Irving has served as a Baptist state superintendent for five years.
The ceremony took place at midday at the Burkhead home. Miss Pearl Burkhead, an accomplished teacher of history in Baltimore, Ohio, wed Mr. Eiger F. Butler, a young entrepreneur in Ohio.

Deputy Sheriff Taylor pursued Charlies J Seely, a former Belding Star editor, chased to Oklahoma on desertion charges. Seely fled from Owosso leaving his wife and two sons with about $1000 owed. A message said he was jailed in Hooker, Oklahoma, and would return to Michigan without a requisition. Alma residents recall his earlier souvenir edition for the Record.
Fifty two graduates face final departures as diplomas are awarded across departments. Alumni placements span Cheboygan Michigan to Princeton New Jersey and Boston, with many pursuing teaching and advanced study. The class day entertainments featured the Data Family, a bridge obstacle, and parodies of faculty and students, praised as among the most successful college events. Alpha Theta Literary Society banquet followed by toasts with Eloane Hoover as hostess. A Wheelen Cheesman recital showcased the Dunning music method gaining local favor. Continued on page Eight.
Rev Hugh Norman Honald of Plymouth delivered the annual joint meeting address for the W. and Y. M. C. A. at Alma. A large crowd heard the former Alma graduate discuss Mark 10 21 with illustrations of truth, noting that while the Heavenly Father loves mankind there is also a judgment aspect to his nature.
The national Republican convention opened in Chicago with delegates assembled and speeches by Senator Julius Caesar Burrows of Michigan. The Michigan delegation announced committee appointments and outlined plans, signaling orderly proceedings and strong support for certain preselected candidates amid a crowded field.
Alma citizens enjoyed an open air program by the public schools at Wright park. A raised platform among trees hosted four to five hundred parents and friends while 6th grade music and 4th grade flower songs delighted attendees. The faculty praised the year's results and planned to make the event annual. Carl Titus led recitations and songs such as Voices of the world during the program.
