Riverdale Faces Worst Fire in Town History
A Sunday fire raged through Riverdale fueled by high winds. Four businesses including Hauck hardware and Johnson dance hall skating rink and movie house were destroyed. Alma man charged with manslaughter in Balch death
Carl Witter of Alma is in custody on a manslaughter charge connected to a crash that killed Albert Balch last Wednesday. A warrant was issued by Prosecuting Attorney Romaine Clark after an extensive inquiry, bail was posted, and the case was bonded over to circuit court. The indictment also includes negligent homicide under a recent law.

Frank Whitcraft a farmer near the city was brought to justice court before Joseph L Biggerstaff charged with assaulting Willie C Stitt nearly 70. Presbyterians Start A Bible School Here
A five week Vacation Bible School will run from 9:00 to 11:45 a.m. at the Presbyterian church starting next Monday. Classes for all ages will be taught by paid instructors, with no denominational teaching. Enrollment open to all, and details on curriculum and scholarships to follow next week. The Salvation Army reports Alma’s city drive over-subscribed at 1,562, with county efforts to raise 3,950. The firm of Holmes, Crane and Bartling has started paving North Woodworth Avenue after winning the contract. Excavation progresses from the north end toward Superior Street with curb and gutter to follow.
