Nurse Edith Platt Dies After Surgery at Brainerd

Edith Platt 23 a nurse at Brainerd hospital Vestaburg area died yesterday from an appendectomy operation performed a week earlier. She had been ready to serve with the Red Cross and was taken ill at home, death occurring at 8:00 am. Funeral services set for Saturday at 12.40 pm at her parents home with Rev. Duffey officiating.

Fatal Burn Incident Claims Local Child

Curtis Somerville nine year old son of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Somerville of this city died from burns received when flames burst from an open furnace door while he started a fire in the basement on East Superior Street. He passed away at 4:00 a.m. Tuesday after enduring severe burns all night. The body was taken to Mt. Pleasant for burial beside the Somerville children.
