Alma Drives Red Cross Campaign Beyond Quota

Alma reports a strong Red Cross drive surpassing its quota with total pledges reaching 5 197.5 dollars and 2000 over the goal. Chairman L A Sharp notes 2026 09 already paid and 4171 50 pledges unpaid, expecting final results to exceed 4000 for the drive. Deep Well Water Supply Progress Indicated for Alma

Indications show Alma will soon share its pure well water as city wells proceed. One well finished Tuesday delivers strong flow. fifteen total planned. Drilling spans across the Union school area and other spots on East Superior Street. A pumping station with brick, one story, about one hundred feet back from the river will be built with waterproofing to prevent basement leakage. Pumps will be in the basement. water goes directly to them. Site will be beautified into a park upon completion if plans stay.

Horse Runaway Injures City Man In State Street Accident

Harry Campbell was thrown from a coal wagon when a runaway horse on State Street veered toward Center Street. He struck his head and suffered a deep cut with the wagon passing over him, though no bones were broken. The wagon belonged to the Commercial Coal company. Also reported 120 Sammies arrived in Alma to fetch Liberty trucks bound for France.

A new city owned fire station is set to be built this summer outlining plans for Station A. The project pledges prompt response improvements and expanded facilities for firefighting and emergency services.

Alma to Erect Two Story Fire Station Behind City Hall

City council approved John White's plans for a new two story brick fire station facing Gratiot Avenue to be built north of the current city hall. The 40 by 60 foot structure will include a first floor 48 by 20 foot main fire room and a rear work area, with a second floor housing three apartments for drivers and families. The basement will serve the street department and future expansion. Construction aims for completion before winter, with a contemporaneous jail plan and post remodel of city hall into a ladies rest room and library once fire premises are ready.

Tragic Ithaca Accident Ends in Brainerd Hospital

Dr H P Kilborn's eighteen month old son Stewart was playing in a yard when he escaped a railed porch enclosure. The doctor backed his car and the child was struck, suffering a crushed head. He died at Brainerd hospital shortly before noon.

May Police Report Shows Quiet Month in Alma

Alma police report for May flags a calm month with only three arrests under city ordinances two for traffic violations and one for nuisance. L F Murphy interests of Detroit owners of the Liberty theatre will take over the Idlehour theatre building in late June when the current lease with A Miller expires June 24. The annual school exhibit featured the manual training department with furniture pieces like rockers and bookcases crafted by pupils after months of hard work. Passed Away Frank Gray in Alma After Long Illness

Frank Gray a longtime Alma resident died Monday morning after heart trouble Bright's disease and nervous strain. He owned a restaurant in Alma and had been connected with the Ancada hotel. Born in Tyrone New York in 1886 he moved to Michigan at twenty one and settled in Alma where he remained. Survived by wife Grace two sons Bert of Cleveland Ohio Will of Spokane Washington a daughter Carrie of Keewanow and a sister Mrs G P Brown. Funeral services held Wednesday at Riverside cemetery with Lodge members assisting grave interment at Riverside. Nettie Strouse Forest Hill wins the Alma Record contest locating missing words earning one dollar prize. She is to call at the office to claim her winnings.
