Laupaugh Freed After Preliminary Auto Theft Exam
The examination of Stanley Laupaugh on unauthorized use of L. N. Sweet's automobile before Justice Chadwick last Friday ended with Laupaugh being discharged. He claimed he rode from Riverdale and did not know the car was secured and used illegally. Prosecutor Gogins led the session with several witnesses, but no evidence tied Laupaugh to the offense. He had no attorney and offered little defense, appearing unfamiliar with court procedure. The judge indicated the case is innocence on his part.

Miss Ina Welsh Dies at Family Home in Alma
Miss Ina Welsh aged about twenty died last Saturday at the Welsh home on Orchard street after an eighteen month illness. Born in Gratiot county she lived there until fourteen. Her family later moved to Midland county where she taught public school for a year and four months before falling ill. Mr and Mrs Walsh moved to Alma last fall seeking help, but recovery was not achieved. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 11:00 in the home conducted by Rev J Frank Jackson, with interment in Breckenridge cemetery.

Midnight Fire Alarm at Bruske Home on Superior Street
Firefighters responded quickly to a blaze reported just after midnight at the Bruske residence on Superior Street west of the college. The fire, fed by a fireplace, damaged basement joists but did not reach the upper floors, with damage estimated around 100 dollars. Mrs. Bruske and Miss Esther Bruske were at home. Dr. Bruske was away. A separate incident notes a runaway delivery wagon horse belonging to A Hunter, controlled by Alfred Marlinton, frightened and halted in a farmer's driveway after an auto approached.

Rider Rescues Wagon After Horse Falters
Mr Marlton, standing near the wagon, grabbed the lines as the horse lurched. The animal turned sharply, throwing Marlton under the wagon and into a kick to the face, with the hind wheel passing over his back. He crawled onto the horse’s back, halted the horse, and prevented damage to the wagon and cave troughing load, but he could not work the last week due to injuries.

Insane Declared Luke D. Sawyer Committed
Luke D. Sawyer a longtime Ithaca resident and real estate dealer was found insane and committed to the Traverse City asylum for the insane last Saturday by Judge Seaver of the Probate Court. He is fifty six and has suffered months of failing health and periods of violence. His business dealings brought him into contact with many people across Gratiot and surrounding counties.

Farmers' special train tour to visit lower peninsula
