A Gold Star for Alma College Student Frank Sullivan
Frank Sullivan of Coldwater member of the class of 1920 at Alma College is the first of 120 college men in service to die, passing from sickness at Portsmouth government hospital. He was buried in Coldwater, with a memorial service at Alma College where President JH ML Crooks delivered a tribute praising his voluntary enlistment and steadfast duty, urging students to honor his life and remember a brief life well lived.

Pioneer Resident of Alma Dies in Owosso
Judge Henry W. Sandall of Gratiot county dies at 616 North Sagliaw street Owosso after a long illness. Born in England 80 years ago he came to America at age 10 and settled in Alma in 1860 where he served as postmaster and justice of the peace for 25 years. He moved to Owosso in retirement. survived by widow and two sons William and Wesley. Funeral Friday at 2900 p.m. Riverside cemetery plans announced.

Junk dealer Ben Berman fined for health code violation
Ben Berman Alma junk dealer was arraigned in Justice Johnson's court and fined 9.75 for maintaining a nuisance after failing to move battered bones at his junk yard despite health department orders. Chief Oscar Wibber arrested him. he pled guilty and paid the fine. Luchini Brothers fruit store held a WWI entry commemoration and Red Cross benefit, donating ten gallons of ice cream and boosting funds by 40.19.

Patriotic Rallies Planned Across Gratiot County Schools
On Monday July 8, election day for trustees, eight thousand five hundred districts statewide will host simultaneous patriotic rallies in Michigan schools. The Gratiot County War Board led by Lt. Conlvis of Ithaca will coordinate with district boards to arrange speakers and emblem exercises, tying rallies to Liberty Loan and Red Cross drives.

Alma City Nears Six Million Valuation Amid Tax Rate Uncertainty
