A pioneer Alma citizen, he was deputy postmaster for years and served as city and township treasurer at different times. He moved north about twenty years ago and later held city clerk and city treasurer posts in Petoskey. Numerous friends regret his passing.

Elwood Willett, 16, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Willett of 504 Bridge Street, drowned Monday while swimming near the State Street bridge. He shouted for help, sank, and despite efforts by companions and nearby men, the body was recovered about an hour later. He was missing when help arrived. resuscitation failed. Body sent to Woodstock for burial. Willett had been employed at the Republic and Coroati theatre in Alma.
