Alma Wins Gratiot County Track Meet In Poor Weather
Alma high school dominated the tenth annual Gratiot county track meet at Alma, scoring 64 25 points to lead Breckenridge Ithaca and St Louis as rain halted events. Bentley and Allen led individual scoring with 14 and 30 points respectively as pole vault and high jump were disrupted, and North Star and Wheeler split results in the Class A meet.

State highway department plans to invite bids on June 21 for paving trunk line highways within Alma city limits this year. Once bids are let, the successful contractor will mobilize equipment promptly with little expected delay before project completion.

The Middleton high school baseball team, once 10-1, lost 0 to 6 to Alma in the Davisville tournament. The 200 000 gallon elevated tank for Alma's well water system is completed and being painted. It was tested with water and joints held. Painting should finish in a day or two and city use may start late this week or next, though drinking water at homes will take longer. A Texaco station on E Superior Street was burglarized Monday evening, about 15 dollars stolen.

Alma Defeats Ithaca High II in Strong Pitching Display
Alma's hurler pitched excellent baseball as the Orange and Black overwhelmed Ithaca High II, leading from the start and never allowing a threat. The game was noted as Alma's best turnout this year and secured their grip on the Gratini county baseball honors. An enjoyable party followed at the Deyarmond home on Allen Ave as friends surprised the couple after their quiet wedding and move to their new home.

Pioneer Civil War Veteran Dies at 70 in Alma
Rolomon Wilber, a pioneer resident of Alma and Civil War veteran, died Saturday at age 70. He served in the Union Army's 40th N. Y. Infantry and a New York Cavalry regiment, later marrying Amelia Purdy in 1866. Funeral Tuesday at First Baptist Church with Rev. Edward Shouffer officiating. interment at Riverside/St. Louis cemetery. Survived by several relatives in Alma.
