Christy was taken to St hospital at Saginaw and operated on last Friday for an ear abscess. Dr Slack performed the operation and the patient has returned to Alma and is doing nicely.

Old Resident Dies After Long Life of Travel
Mire M J Bogardus died last Sunday morning at her son in law George Ward’s home on Woodworth avenue. She was seventy one and wife of M J Bogardus. Born in Ohio she lived in Ionia county 1868 to Alma 1876 then Oregon with son Philo before returning to Alma for burial. She leaves one son Philo and two daughters Mrs George Ward and Mrs Fred Bradford. Funeral at Baptist church led by Rev J W Priest. Newell Bradford noted as sheriff.

Band of Gypsies Visit St Louis Causes Stolen Money Incident
A group of traveling gypsy horse traders visited St Louis. Women in the party distracted shoppers while theft occurred at Macdonald and Reble furniture store, with two dollars stolen then eight dollars seized later. Marshal Halteman and Deputy Sheriff Martin recovered the money after a chase. the woman confessed and was released after repayment. The same day the Whitney Stock Company performed on a vacant lot east of Roller Mills to good crowds, reporting a larger company than previous seasons.

The 1. O. T. M. M. association of Gratiot and Isabella counties met at Pleasant Valley on May 24. Post Office Raises Postal Savings Limit to $1,000
President Wilson approves an amendment to the Postal Savings Act allowing depositors to hold accounts up to $1,000 with interest. The old $500 cap is eliminated along with monthly withdrawal limits, addressing public demand as over half a million savers hold eighty million dollars in the system. The change comes as Postmaster General Burleson and Third Assistant Dockery press to expand facilities. Unique Affair At Epworth League World Tour Party
Last Friday the Epworth League of the M. E. church held a two hour World Tour party for 110 attendees from Ithaca and St. Louis. Groups visited five countries Iceland Japan Turkey Ireland and Scotland each hosted by a costumed guide then returned to the church United States decorations Uncle Sam and Miss Columbia led a grand march to the dining room for elaborate refreshments. The event drew praise as one of the best evenings, with guests praising the entertainment and atmosphere.

P T Barnum first ring whip to Alma College relic
Alma College displays a whip said to be P. T. Barnum s first ring whip from the 1850s. The relic, once owned by F. Brown, was donated to the college museum after his father recalled Barnum s visit to Lansing area. The whip hung briefly in Rhode s drug store window drawing interest from locals.

A silver medal contest under the W C T U was held Wednesday evening in the high school auditorium. A fair crowd enjoyed an excellent program with Mae Jones singing and grades providing music.
