The firm has created Alma-Bromo Soap for the toilet and skin, Alma-Bromo Ointment for skin troubles, and Alma-Bromo Salts as a tonic and laxative, with distribution nationwide through the drug firm's agents. The Sanatorium Co ships the water to Detroit for processing and onward sale.
A man using the alias Ko AL Rate, claiming ties to Rate & Sons of Iowa City, traveled through several states last week posing as a hotel guest and passing forged checks. He targeted premier hotels, cashing dud checks and leaving only forgeries behind. Authorities tracked him across thirty seven towns, but he eluded capture until this week when he was found in Grand Rapids. The suspect boasted forged funds over 214000 and carried letters supporting the scheme.
