Alma School of Methods Opens With Strong Attendance
The Alma School of Methods launches its second annual session with record turnout and a diverse, nationwide student body. Twenty one faculty members, including specialists from Congregational, Baptist, Methodist, and Presbyterian denominations, oversee lectures and courses from ten o clock to noon and nine in the evening. Attendees hail from six states and cities like Lansing, Detroit, Saginaw, Grand Rapids, and Chicago, while weeklong programs feature Mrs. Wilson of Mayville and Dr. Barkley among others, aiming to standardize religious training across denominations.

Miss Lou Florence Olp, a young Saginaw pianist, earns high praise in Musical America for her solo appearance at the Michigan Music Teachers’ association convention. The magazine notes her density and poetry in interpretation, and her selection as a standout from Michigan on the program. Cummings, also from Saginaw, was elected secretary of the association while Olp joined the membership committee.

Carter McPhee Marriage Surprises Alma Family
William McPhee of the Studebaker garage and Bernice Carter a former Alma High School sophomore wed in Ithaca last Thursday without parental knowledge. The match was strongly discouraged by parents yet pursued by the couple, and county records show the license issued before the knot was tied. After the ceremony the parents granted their blessing and the couple began life at the bride’s parents home on Grant Avenue.

Stevenson Receives 30 Day Jail Term in Ithaca Theft Case
Roy Stevenson proprietor of the Arcada Cafe formerly of St Louis was arrested Friday evening for petty theft. In Circuit Court Tuesday he was sentenced to thirty days in jail followed by two years parole. About eight to nine dollars was stolen from John Luchini's candy and fruit store and recovered from Stevenson at the cafe. He claimed innocence until evidence grew strong. Parts of his possessions are being held for debts.

First Presbyterian Church of Alma Growth and Outreach
The First Presbyterian church of Alma shows steady growth since 1901 with large Sabbath School enrollment and a new playground. Under Superintendent Prof F N Notestein the church partners with other local groups and expands mission work locally and abroad. It supports a home missionary in Engadine and a China mission parish at Tsing Tau led by Rev Ernest Scott. Membership reached 141 since April 1 1915, with local expense gifts up 8 percent and benevolent gifts up 54 percent. Music by Prof J T Ewing and active Ladies Aid, Women’s Missionary Society, and Y P S C E sustain church life.

Kenneth Priest eldest son of Rev. 4. W. Priest has been in Sag inaw General Hospital since his operation three weeks ago and is very dangerously ill. Doctors offer only a slight chance of recovery. Appendicitis burst on the way to the hospital and a high fever followed. Friends and family visit frequently as Kenneth fights to improve.

Sewer Contract Lands In Alma For City Project
Thomas Sampson of Mt. Pleasant wins the Alma sewer contract to dig eight thousand two hundred seventy six feet of pipe, with a 36000 bid accepted at a special council meeting. Other bids ranged from 7005 to 26007, with lines to be laid on Gratiot Woodworth and Rockingham to Ely Street using glazed pipe from six to twenty inches.

Alma City split a doubleheader with Carson City Independent in Carson City on a field day. In the morning game Alma lost 3 to 2 after nine innings as Hickey toed the mound for Alma against Siple. Alma tallied in the eighth on hits by Malcolm Smith and Paul Cash with a passed ball. In the afternoon Alma won 8 to 5 in a free hitting contest highlighted by Malcolm Smith’s speed and a late Alma surge to tie and then pull ahead. Hallebaugh led with three hits, and Carson City tallied runs on timely hits and Alma errors but Alma prevailed with a fourth inning burst and four runs in the eighth.
