Monster Demonstration Welcomes Gratiot Nominee Darragh

Gratiot county Republicans staged a loud homecoming for Hon A B Darragh after his nomination for congress in the eleventh district. A large procession from Alma St Louis and Ithaca, music from a band, fireworks, and a decorated town created a Fourth of July atmosphere. Darragh was carried on shoulders through Alma to St Louis amid cheers of nearly a thousand admirers. The event boosted sentiment that Darragh will win by a large margin.

Elisabeth O Spencer died July 12 1900 after long service

Mrs Elisabeth O Spencer died on Thursday July 12 1900 during midweek prayer. The funeral was held at her house Saturday at 2 PM with Dr A F Brooke officiating and burial in Riverside cemetery. Born July 1 1880 in Starkey New York she moved to Sharon Connecticut as a child and became preceptress of Kellogg Female Seminary at Clinton New York at age 12. She married Rev Franklin A Spencer in 1850 and had three living children Willard K Spencer Alma Michigan Mary H Boisot Chicago and Franklin A Spencer St Louis. After her husband’s death she lived with her eldest son. A woman of energy and Christian service she suffered an organic heart trouble from a 1599 fall and died while talking cheerfully about friends ending with a testament to the dead in the Lord.

Patrons of Rural Free Delivery Route No 1 express satisfaction with service. Carrier Pettyjohn started last Monday and by Thursday noon had delivered 225 pieces of mail and collected 1M. Nearly 100 families have installed mail boxes, with many more to follow. hopes for two more Alma routes and an annual excursion notice follows.

E Richardson of Ithaca has rented the first door of Earl Clark's barber shop and opened a first class harness shop. Richardson, with twelve years in harness work for M. M. Brown of Ithaca, will move his family to the Woodworth avenue location near Central Drug store as soon as possible. Welcome is extended for his success.
