Sudden Death of Alma Resident William J Gargett
William J Gargett of Alma died suddenly at his home on Waterst. last Friday afternoon shocking villagers. He was born December 26 1841 in Medina county Ohio, served in Battery A 1st Ohio Light Artillery, and fought in the Army of the Cumberland before settling in Sumner township and later Alma. He leaves wife Catharine and children George Louise and James. Funeral held at his house Monday with Rev W K Spencer officiating. burial in Riverside cemetery. He was a devout Christian Scientist and student of Science and Health.

Alma College Receives Alexander Winchell Fossil Collection
Alma College to house the Alexander Winchell collection of fossils and minerals after securing it for 2500 dollars. The collection, built by Prof. Winchell, includes over seven thousand specimens from Michigan and rare items coveted by major institutions including the University of Chicago. Mrs. Winchell contributed as one of four donors to keep the treasures in state.
