Townsend Club organized in Gratiot County for Townsend

Gratiot County residents and friends of Jackson candidate Chas. E. Townsend formed a Gratiot County Townsend Club at the Wright House. Elected officers include President John Watson Ithaca, Vice President Bert Crawford Ithaca, Treasurer A. S. McIntyre Saint Louis, Secretary Chas. Goggins Alma. Strong Suffered Appendicitis Operation Success

W D Strong fell ill last week and underwent appendicitis surgery in our city with Dr Mc Clinton and Dr Gardner assisted by Dr Bagley. He is recovering well and his friends are gratified. The Women Auxiliary of St. Johns parish meets July 1 at 8 PM with Mrs W S Turck. A program on Neighborness includes songs and papers by Miss Montigel Miss Delavan and Mrs Jackson. Virginia Mulvey of Alma performed a vocal solo at Ferris Co-operative banquet noted by The Big Rapids Pioneer.

Frederick J. Soule, Alma High and Alma College graduate, has accepted the pastorate of the First Baptist Church in Summerville New Jersey a borough near New York City. He begins duties July 4 and is expected to win broad support from the congregation and local interests. Soule born December 19 1883 in Ovid Michigan pursued theological studies at Rochester Seminary Union Theological Seminary and Columbia University earning a Master of Arts and aiming for a Doctor of Philosophy.

Alma band renamed Wright's Opera House Band forms local roster

The Alma Cornet Band is reorganized as Wright's Opera House Band with officers led by G. S. Ward as president and A. Yerington as leader. Internal Revenue Mull Tax Hike Shifts Tobacco Pricing
