Alma plant expands for beet sugar boom in Gratiot county

The Alma Michigan Sugar Company plant undergoes extensive summer improvements to boost capacity as beet production grows statewide. With 50 to 80 workers, the upgrades include new cement flumes and tracks for beet unloading, doubled beet sheds, larger molasses tanks, and a longer dyer building, reflecting rising beet output and profitability across Michigan.

Suit Over Fatal Car Crash Ties Saloon Keepers

Mrs Blanche Kemp of St Louis files a $2000 suit against Hugh J Dilon John Kohlschmidt and the Michigan Bonding and Surety Company. The complaint alleges the defendants knowingly served liquor to Fred Kemp on Sept 28 1910 causing intoxication that left him unable to drive, his car overturning and killing him while his earnings were over 3000 a year.

Alma couple wed in June ceremony

Little Jumbo engine spurs Alma industry growth

Nelson Brothers of Alma showcase a 114 horse power Little Jumbo gasoline engine built from Ray Smith patterns. Since January 1911 they have produced 300 units and sold them rapidly, with 20,000 pump jacks or engines made in 20 months and 3,000 used by International Harvester. The firm, started in 1907, expanded to 25 employees and plans for 22,000 square feet to employ 100–160 workers, drawing attention from neighboring boards of trade and showcasing Alma as a manufacturing hub.

Excursion To Ann Arbor And Toledo By Alma Church

The Gratiot county Sunday school excursion of the First Methodist Church sails to Toledo on August 9. Tickets cost $1.00 round trip, with first train从 Alma at 6 40.
