An article reports a new use for sugar beets turning them into flour at Suresnes France. The process dries beets from 72 percent water to yield 100 pounds of dry material from 857 pounds beets and produces a fine sweet meal with about 82 percent nutrimental exchange. An Owosso dispatch reports that Michigan will pay farmers 5000 for the sugar beet crop and that this year will witness the greatest harvest in the state. Farmers estimate the crop two weeks ahead of its normal condition with about 160000 acres planted across Michigan.

Nearby Ithaca representatives praised the area.
R I Dixon secretary of the Michigan State Board of Health appeals to Michigan households to fight typhoid fever and infantile diarrhoea by boiling drinking water and eradicating flies. He cites a recent farm case where contaminated well water sickened a mother and four children and urges pasteurized milk, fly control, and water safety as essential safeguards for homes.
Merrill and St Johns figures inspect ground for a proposed electric railway via Alina and St Ienis to Saginaw. They view the road as a sure thing. Detroit tribute reports surveyors laying out a route from St Johns to Saginaw through Merrill in tentative stages with unclear origin and terminal.
Eldreth Granger who drives the Kotdsen milk wagon broke his right leg when he fell from a timber in the loft at the Kindon firm. The accident occurred last Thursday and Dr Lamb set the bone. He will be confined to his home for some time as a result of the incident.
Joseph Sarter Sr celebrated his birthday at home on Mechanic Street with nearly ascote relatives, including children and grandchildren. A longtime Alma resident of 35 years, he is highly respected, and friends wish to see him stay active for many years. He received many gifts as mementos of the occasion.
J D McKenna 65 of 602 Grane dy avenue drowned Sunday afternoon while bathing with his son Willard age 1 at Bote Blanc heat sun on his head he collapsed before rescue. He opened the first drug store in Shepherd and married Frances Bigelow. survived by widow two children and a son and daughter from a former marriage. Remains brought to Shepherd for burial in Salt River cemetery with Masonic services.
A fall land and apple exposition is planned in the Coliseum, Grand Rapids, during the second week in November. Western Michigan Development Bureau and Grand Rapids Evening Press jointly organize to present Michigan products and resources to the world, aiming for a first time display.
State Fire Marshal C A Palmer fixed July 25 as Clean-up day to reduce fire hazards across Michigan. He urged fire chiefs village presidents and deputy marshals to enforce the law and coordinate a uniform effort to clear basements alleys and hazardous waste in their communities and lower fire insurance costs.
The Pine River Telephone Association moved a building purchased from J. C. Moody to a site north of the brick store and installed a switchboard with Emery Parsons in charge. Forest Hill now enjoys continuous service seven days a week, twenty four hours daily.

Mrs Clapper and Mrs Frank Clapper traveled to Bay City Tuesday to visit Mrs Frank Clapper who returned home Friday night and will stay longer. Hert Lowe and wife of Sonia spent Sunday with her parents Mr and Mrs Jasper Corbin.
