A small town celebration in Alma drew thousands as sun broke through clouds. The Lansing District Epworth League marks its fourteenth annual convention at Grand Ledge on Tuesday and Wednesday July 10 and 20. Delegates are expected in large numbers as a full two day program unfolds with a special rail fare of one and one third.
A twelve year old girl living with her parents in Ithaca is in serious condition after an alleged assault last week. Roy Cell of Ithaca, a married man twenty, was arrested and brought before Judge Mrae to answer the charge, but was ordered to appear on June 22.
Well and wife of the Maxwell Ideal Entertainers delighted the audience with a spellbinding performance. A grand fireworks display supervised by Ford Montigel drew thousands, though many sky rocket sticks lay in the mud by morning. No serious accidents or disturbances marred the celebration.
Work has begun on a new 80 foot steel bridge over Pine river east of the Alma Manufacturing Co plant. The contract was awarded to B. B. Ramsey of Portland for $2,500 with concrete abutments. Completion is targeted for September 1 to allow beeze hauling when the factory opens.
Bart and Will Woodman appeared before Justice Palmer Thareday with County Game Warden Eastick to answer to a charge of shooting fled in Pine River. The boys deny guilt and say they will contest the case.
Union Telephone Co. has issued checks to over 400 stockholders for a four percent semi annual dividend on all stocks issued before June 2, 1904. The company has never missed a semi annual dividend since incorporation and the capital stock represented is about 400,000.
Government lands open for settlement in the Rosebud Indian Reservation in Southeastern South Dakota.
