National Progressives Elect Delegates at Ithaca County Meet

The Gra tiot county National Progressives gathered in Ithaca to elect delegates to the Battle Creek state convention on February 19. Geo. Abbott was named chairman, with A Wood, Dewey Gibbs, Charles Kerr, Sam Case, John Shunck and others chosen as delegates. additional members were named to complete the delegation.

Enrollment Day in City Shows Partisan Shifts Across Wards

Primary enrollment last Saturday recorded 74 Progressives 16 Republicans 18 Democrats and 2 Prohibitionists across four wards. First Ward 20 Progressive 5 Republican 3 Democrat. Second Ward 11 Progressive 2 Republican 8 Democrat. Third Ward 21 Progressive 5 Republican 1 Prohibition. Fourth Ward 18 Progressive 4 Republican 2 Prohibition. Over eighty percent of Progressives enrolled had previously been Republicans.

Teachers State Institute to Be Held in Alma Next Week

The Gratiot County Teachers Institute is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday February 10 and 11 in Alma. The program features opening exercises, several addresses on grade geography and teaching, plus discussions on the teacher's personality, home help for schools, and methods to help pupils become self-reliant. Business, music, and announcements cap the sessions with an adjournment planned after noon on Tuesday. Also noted is Banghart's Market selling pure rendered lard at 12 1/4 cents per pound.

Helen Tubbs Dies After Sparrow Hospital Stay

Helen Tubbs known as Nell died Tuesday evening at Sparrow Hospital Lansing after a minor operation. A Gratiot county resident for 27 years she worked in the aviation general office at Lansing. Funeral Friday from the Ellison home on Gratiot avenue with burial at Riverside.

Alma council moves on claims and crossings talks

Aldermen refer the bill to the Claims Committee and appoint a committee with the city attorney to discuss the RE R crossings at Superior and Center. The enrolling board is funded for enrollment day and several individuals are listed with small payments. The water and general funds are noted, and the council adjourns after a brief session. An unrelated classified notice offers a $150 housekeeping outfit on monthly payments.

Thorbred Aberdeen Angus Herd Formed At Pioneer Farm

Messrs. Geo Sharrar and Neil McNamara received at the Ann Arbor stock yards twenty three heifers five calves and half of the Aberdeen Angus breed to form a nucleus herd at Pioneer farm five miles west and two miles south of Alma. The herd head Criters Manis won first prizes at fairs in Coliihes Detroit and Grand Rapids as a yearling and is described as beauty. The owners invite the public to visit Pioneer farm to see the thorouth bred Angie cattle.

Effective February 1 2013 the Central Michigan Produce Co ceases operations and transfers all business to Swift & Company with subsequent dealings in the Swift & Co name.
