State Farmers Institute to convene at Owasso

Delegates from every county in the state will attend the annual Farmers Institute at Owasso April 4 to 27. Prof Taft heads arrangements with papers from college leaders and noted farmers on stock feeding dairying and staple crops. Cornell's John Creig will discuss apple orchard care and grounds decoration. Forestry and veterinary topics are featured with other experts from Michigan and Chicago. Women’s sessions led by Mrs Carrie Ives Saunders, with railroads offering half fare.

Buffaloes meeting to close class in Alma tonight

J F B Smith representing the American Buffaloes in the county has been in Alma for two weeks. A large delegation of St Louis businessmen is expected at the W I O ball tonight to exemplify the work. Smith was in Beaverton Wednesday night to assist in organizing a herd.

May fix freight rates and uniform schedules urged

Among legislators a general sentiment favors action to fix a uniform freight rate schedule if railroads raise rates due to state railroad commission doubts. They also expect attempts to cut switching charges to two dollars per car.

Injured Supervisor Pitt Hit by Runaway Team

Wim. T. Pitt a Seville township supervisor was seriously injured Saturday after a runaway team struck him in Riverdale. Initial reports suggested possible fatal injuries, but the latest update notes he is listed as a 10-1 condition.

Sophomores Hold Annual Program Opening Year’s “Aprels”

The sophomores presented their annual program with eight literary pieces by as many class reps. Levi Butler spoke on Andrew Johnson, arguing he did not deserve all abuse. Don Rives favored Johnson’s constitutional view. Other orations covered the Know Nothing Party, Chinese attitudes, Jonathan Edwards, Tomorrow, charity, the Australian Ballet System, and Universal Peace. The event ended with a Wright Hall reception hosted by freshmen.

Pomona Grange Meeting Planned at Liberty Grange Hall

A large crowd is expected for the Gratiot Pomona Grange meeting at Liberty Grange hall North Star in February. The event features a morning program with Sension at 10:80 and other performances including Degros Opete and a state grange theme.

Pine River Farmers Club February Meeting and Auction

The Pine River Farmers club meets at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Holmes on Thursday February 5 with a program including recitations and songs. Royer advertises an auction of farming implements and livestock to be sold Tuesday February 10 at noon one-half mile north and one-fourth mile east of Vestaburg, conducted by auctioneer E Chandler of Butternat.

FAVORS APPRIATION FOR NORMAL SCHOOLS

The state board of education met in Lansing and elected L Wright as president P H Kelley as vice president James H Thompson as treasurer and Sapt as public instruction full secretary ex officio They approved an appropriation of 108210 annually for two years for the normal schools and an extra 85000 for repairs and improvements including a wing to Marquette normal to house the Mores Volt Tyler library donated by Marquette citizens Tax Payers notice also lists township taxes to be received at Alma store by D W Avan township treasurer.
