Alma Grain and Lumber Co boosts city lighting by installing about $4,000 worth of machinery including two new alternating current, three phase sixty cycle generators and fifty nitrogen filled arc lamps in the residence district. The upgrades replace the old DC generators and an old switch with a modern synchronizing type to improve power distribution.

The D W Robinson store closed about 9 30 last Saturday evening with the staff sharing a banquet. A planned basement surprise for the opening of January Sale failed when the victim ordered the decorations torn down. Alma Boys Edge Traverse City In Close College Game

Alma College defeated Traverse City 29 to 28 in a hard fought road game. The Maroon and Cream showed teamwork, strong guarding, and controlled play on the floor, despite the unfamiliar Traverse City court. The close score followed a year of one point losses and reflects Alma's improving form this season.

College Board Boosts Endowment Drive Plans

At a board meeting in Alma the trustees voted to begin a two year campaign on May 15 to raise 700000 toward a 1000000 endowment. Donations from members will remain private for months as a salary committee reorganizes faculty pay. An extra 1000 was approved for a summer campaign. William Griffin of Alma Grain & Lumber is set to speak at the Michigan Bean Association Mid Winter meeting, following welcome remarks by Charles Warren at the Detroit Hotel Cadillac session.

New Infirmary Nears Completion at Alma Masonic Home

The Michigan Masonic State Home at Alma nears completion of a new infirmary built adjoining the main building. Costing about 25000, the brick structure features a classical facade, fireproof construction, modern ventilation, thermostat heating, electric lighting, and a capacity to care for thirty patients. Mrs. Etta White will head the infirmary with 86 residents overall and a staff of about twenty.

St Louis Creamery Destroyed by Fire in Morning

Fire of unknown origin destroyed the Creamery building at St Louis about 2 a m Thursday. The night watchman alerted, fire fighters arrived in minutes. The structure burned, upper half ruined, machinery damaged, total loss about 2000 dollars. Mrs Lancashire donated a flag pole and G S Young rebuilt it at Tinton School grounds.

Town and Gown Endowment Dinner at Alma College

Alma town and college trustees and faculty joined sixty two citizens for the annual Town and Gown Get-together at Wright Hall. Endowment chair Ira M. Hawk outlined plans to raise one million dollars with a $400,000 allocation, urging Alma and surrounding citizens to contribute and support the college’s growth.
