Coke production to rise as Gratiot County Gas switches coal gas
Gratiot County Gas Co plans to convert from water to coal gas at its city plant, enabling in-house coke production and reduced Coke prices. The move will start around February and serve Alma, Breckenridge, St. Louis, and Ithaca, with 650 current customers and 15 street lights in Breckenridge. The firm expects 1200 customers by September and a summer peak staff near 25, aiming to handle 15,000 to 20,000 gas units. Also notes two local health and staff injury items.

Preliminary Declamations Select Finalists At High School
Last week two preliminary declamation contests were held at the high school for seventh to twelfth graders. Eight of sixteen in the preliminary stage were chosen for the final. A hard fought gymnasium clash Friday night saw Alma College beat Mt Pleasant Normal 12 to 5 after a turbulent second half. Spinney and Richards led Alma with solid point totals as Barnard and Hines caused disruption. Mt Pleasant Normal reserves then topped the local high school 16 to 12 with Emery starring at center in a tightly contested game.
