Teachers Meeting in St Louis for Gratiot County Assoc.

The eighty first semi annual session of the Gratiot County Teachers Association met in St Louis Friday and Saturday with Colgate University president E B Bryan delivering three addresses and papers presented by local teachers. Sessions opened with music by St Louis pupils, papers on High School English and Essentials of English in the Grades, plus class exercises. Bryan spoke on Character Building and Efficiency, stressing that daily actions shape character and that efficiency commands high pay. Saturday continued with more sessions at the high school.

Recital at College Promises Fine Readings Friday And Saturday

A college chapel recital series opens Friday evening with two performers, Robert F. Hume and Verne C. Snell, followed by Saturday’s program led by Miss Mabel Reed and D Royal Blaske. The no admission event begins at 7:40 Friday and 8:00 Saturday, featuring poetry, music, and readings from standard literature. Gratiot County Farmers Institute Round-up Opens in Realty House

The Gratiot County Farmers Institute Round-up began in the Realty Opera House with welcome by President George Coleman of Ithaca. Speakers included Mrs. E. J. Crevis on poultry care and Mr. Jaxon Woodman on live stock, manure use, grafting, and crop routines, followed by hog cholera talk and potato culture tips.

Mock wedding ends sleigh party at Rockwell home

Last week two sleigh loads of Retekahs visited Mr and Mrs Jeanie Rockwell four miles north of Elwell. They enjoyed music games and refreshments. A mock wedding with fictitious names Saran Green and Jobo Knothole featured Sasa Snooks as ring bearer and Riaer Brown officiating. Beans showered the couple for rice.

Plans for Campus Improvement Drawings Unveiled

The college received architect A B Yeomans of Philadelphia to draft a campus plan funded by Mrs Lanin Yeoman King and her brother. The design is extensive with several new buildings and aims for significant progress before the college’s 1912 twenty fifth anniversary.

The College Girls at Alma Lyceum Course Night

The Alma Lyceum Course committee earned praise for the third program titled The College Girl. For two hours Thursday evening Alma citizens enjoyed an entertainment unmatched locally. The company was composed of able artists and the tepid applause after each number showed a pleased audience.

Fred Church a respected Arcada township pioneer dies

Frederick Church known as Fred was born June 2 186d on the Lafayette Church farm in Arcada township and died at his home near the city yesterday morning at 6 00 of general paresis. He served as Arcada township highway commissioner and helped build many miles of roads. He leaves wife Katharine Innis and two children Florence and Vohney Church. Funeral services will be held at the house tomorrow Friday at two o clock.

Zeta Sigmas Win Debate At College Channel

The Zeta Sigma literary society won the annual college debate on resolving that the United States government should levy a progressive income tax. The Phi Phi Alpha team contested the negative side. Judges from Ithaca and the local city presided. A musical program preceded the event and a reception followed with toasts and refreshments.
