Carburetor Co to Start Work on Alma Factory in Sixty Days

Alma grows with a new Western Carburetor Company plant to be built in the northwest section. Henry Soule secures the contract for $16,600. 1000 workers planned as the firm, led by Reemtsen, completes stock, board of directors, and ground donations from local partners. Stocks sold under Michigan Blue Sky compliance. assembly to begin soon after completion. A separate note covers a Gratiot County man, Will Wheeler, jailed on petty larceny charges after selling hogs for a $5,000 down payment and other small thefts. Wright Wins Oratorical Title at Alma College

Detroit student Thomas W. Wright won Alma College's local oratorical contest and will compete in Michigan intercollegiate oratorical contest in March. Eddie Johnston placed second with War and the Trend of Public Opinion. Stanley Warner was third with A Whole Sphere. Wright argued The Delcy of the Liew and stressed delay in justice and the need for speedy, fair law. He has strong personality and could place high at the state level.

Standard Oil to Open Alma Distributing Plant

A Standard Oil representative announced plans to locate a distributing branch in Alma. A 100 by 75 foot building will be erected at Lincoln Avenue to serve central Michigan. Charles Plowyne will oversee distribution with about ten to twelve workers initially.

The two Alma banks held annual meetings this week with directors re elected and assets noted. Abtow State Savings reported strong growth and named William A Bahlke and Jotham Allen as officers, while First State Bank announced assets near one million dollars and over 15000 in interest paid to depositors.

Delavan family visits as Marjorie and Carlyn Delavan host

Mr and Mrs Delavan of Missouri and Mescaline Delavan hosted holiday guests Miss Marjorie Delavan of Hoxton and Carlyn C Delavan of Missoula Montana. Carlyn recently married Miss Etta E Hearn of Benzonia on December 27 and left for Flathead National Forest headquarters at Mixsouth to begin three months of forest service investigation work. Etta Hearn, former Alma public school instructor, is remembered by Alma friends. The couple will be stationed near Pest River Experiment Station with travel via Alma Ann Arbor Chicago and Virginia Minnesota. Clyde Campbell was charged with violating local option law after an Ernest Monday night hearing. January 2 set for further hearing. Campbell’s bail was set at 220000. Two young men claim Campbell provided them a ship’s vessel night of December 20. Campbell will defend against the charge.
