Mrs Loveland Dies A longtime Alma resident

Mrs H. Loveland of Alma died at her Mechanic street home last week Saturday at 78 after a long illness. Born in Ridgeway New York in 1838 she moved with parents to Michigan then Mt Pleasant where she lived most of her life. She married J. H. Loveland twenty nine years ago and remained in Alma. A Baptist church member and leader she leaves three children Roop Melvin Roop of Mt Pleasant and Alta M Adams. Funeral was held at the late home Tuesday with Rev Priest officiating and interment in Mt Pleasant Cemetery.

Well Known College Graduate Married in Mt Pleasant

Saturday at noon the wedding of Ruth Van Leuven and Alexander J. Duncanson took place at the bride’s home. Rev. R. H. Bradfield officiated. The couple, both prominent locals, were attended by Clarence Goodrich and Edith Mansell. Duncanson, a former Alma College twirler and current Mt. Pleasant school principal, is admired for his music and teaching career.

Alma college oratorical contest and girls contest set in chapel

Local Alma college to hold a men and women oratorical contest in the chapel after a 7 PM basketball game. Seven men compete for the Michigan state contest, three from each literary society and a seventh independent contestant.
