The Saginaw Aces, champions of the Michigan Ontario League, are planning to hold spring training in Alma pending favorable weather. Red McKee will manage and bring about thirty hopefuls to compete for a spot on the 1920 Saginaw league team. Alma offers strong annexes at the Republics and Alma College to sharpen players. If the move occurs, Alma would host a league spring camp for the first time since the old South Michigan league era with Bay City and Hi Cole.

Verne S Aldrich a young Alma businessman died last Friday at his East Superior home from pneumonia after influenza. Born 1887, he moved from Birmingham to Alma three years ago to run Superior Baking Co with A G Moore. Survived by wife Nora, daughter Mary, son Thomas, and siblings, he was active in Masonic orders. Private services were held and burial planned in St Louis with Masons escort.

Pioneer Dead Wilson Shaver Thirty Years a Gratiot Resident
Wilson Shaver a well known Gratiot county resident died at his Grover avenue home Saturday February 21 after weeks of illness. Born April 26 1850 in Seneca county Ohio he came to Michigan and thirty years ago settled in Gratiot county. He married October 4 1899 to Nora Sheldon who survives him. He leaves two brothers John of Hiawatha Kansas and Andrew of Wheeler township and a half brother and sister in Kalamazoo plus several nephews. Funeral was at his home Monday with Rev Ellis officiating, interment Riverside cemetery.

A Sunday council meeting of Alma Federation of Churches outlined a March citywide drive to win Alma for Christ. Committees were formed for better Sunday services, signage, posters and visitation. About LM workers will visit, divided into seven districts with 14 district supervisors to lead. Supervisors named and ordered to meet next Tuesday for final instructions. A daily prayer call was issued to all Christians in the city.
