Canadian immigration evader Ambrose Buckley was captured this week by Chief of Police Oscar Vibber and delivered to a U S immigration officer for deportation. Buckley, who slipped into the U S through Port Huron in 1917, was tracked to Alma after detours through Saginaw and Detroit. Arguments Next Week On Change Of Venue For Inez Johnson
The Gratiot county circuit court will hear arguments before Judge E J Moinet next week on Inez Johnsons bid for a venue change. The petition has been on file over a week as affidavits are gathered. Johnson, one of three arrested in December following Beatrice Eplers murder September 4 1917, faces a murder charge similar to Albert Elchorn and alongside John F Brennan who was absolved. A local tuberculosis clinic reported wood-result data from thirty one examined, with several suspicious or incipient cases and four indeterminate negatives.

Gratiot club house opening postponed for redecorating
The planned opening of the Gratiot club house has been postponed from Wednesday February 12 to Saturday February 22 due to unfinished remodeling work. Floors have been scraped and revarnished and walls redecorated. The second floor will be converted into a large billiard and pool room. furniture and drapes are being selected by H. M. Crooks and Rev. J. Frank Jackson. The committee seeks new members and a theater benefit event at Liberty theatre is announced for February 1 with proceeds supporting future armory efforts.
