Alma high school split weekend games, beating Howell 28 to 27 then losing to Mt. Pleasant 29 to 15, with Captain Hodge injured and key players Crech Lyon and Moore notable in tight contests. The team later defeated St Louis 16 to 11 on the road as Homer Dunham orchestrated changes. Also reports club officers installed at Alma Hive No 22 with a post installation pot luck supper.

Hillsdale and Greenville Duel On Alma Floor Friday

Alma High School faces Greenville High in a likely fast paced game while Hillsdale College meets Alma in a marquee Midwest game. Hillsdale comes in undefeated, two losses this season for Alma and Michigan’s four point win over Hillsdale mark the only setback.

American Legion installs officers in Lansing

The George W. Myers post No 132 American Legion held 1920 officer installation at city hall. Colonel McCormick of Lansing spoke on World War I memorial service and past events. The next meeting is scheduled for February 17 and is open to all members. Two former Alma men, Edgar M. Wood and Archie N. Wood, join as Wood, Lardie & Wood architects and engineers in Lansing with offices at 519 Oakland building.

Change in Father and Son Week Dates Announced

Frank F. Smith, chairman, reports the Father and Son week shifts from February 29 to February 14 22. Banquet date moved to February 20 with full program expected next week. Clarence Jenkins added to the finance committee, previously opposed. DeLuxe candies praised.

Property sale nets new owners for Suydam corner site

Dr. J F Suydam sold his corner East Superior and Gratiot property now owned by Harry Way and Preston H Murray of a new real estate firm. Sale price reported around 20000 dollars. The two story wooden building on East Superior and Woodworth block office on Woodworth sit on a modest Superior frontage with solid Woodworth exposure. Meanwhile Alma College basketball fell 24 to 18 to Hope, despite a strong Alma first half. Hope’s defense shut down Alma’s attack while Gaffney led the visitors with 12 points and Prins and Japinga shone on both ends for Alma.

Lieutenant Gwindell Barden Dies From 1919 Air Crash

Lieutenant Gwindell Barden of St Louis Michigan died in Washington hospital from injuries suffered December 1 1919 in an airplane accident at Bolling Field. A member of the Aero Club of America he helped design the Liberty motor and served as a navy test pilot and Naval Aircraft Board of Acceptance member. Charlie Chaplin appears in unrelated note.

IS POSTPONED Case of Alma Against Purcell in April

The City of Alma suit against A KR Purcell for 25000 was postponed from the Tuesday circuit court date to the first of April term due to City Manager William Reynolds falling ill with influenza symptoms. Attorney James G. Kress moved the adjournment and the court granted it.
